Mariko Mainhattan Strings

About the Cellist

New Zealand born German-Japanese Cellist Mariko Windecker completed her Bachelor of Music with Honours under Edith Salzmann at the University of Auckland School of Music. After which she studied with Alvin Wong, before studying with Sabine Krams at the HfMDK Frankfurt.

During her studies, she gained chamber music and orchestra experience in various Student and professional ensembles as principle and tutti cello. She participated in masterclasses throughout Europe and Australasia with teachers including Csaba Onczay, Matias De Oliveira Pinto, Ramón Jaffé und Troels Svane.

Since 2016 she has been an active pedagogue, including experience as teaching assistant to Edith Salzmann at the Pettman National Junior Academy and as a private Cello teacher and chamber music coach. In 2023, she completed a Masters in Music pedagogy at the HfMDK Frankfurt. During which she studied cello under Sabine Krams and chamber music under Hans-Jakob Staemler.

Currently, she is active in and around Frankfurt am Main, Germany as a member of the Magnus Trio, Mainhattan Strings Ensembles and the Klangfabrik Scoring Orchestra. As well as teaching cello, running music education workshops (Kammermusikando, Opernspielplatz - Oper Frankfurt) and as a supporting player and mentor for chamber music (Projects at Dr Hochs Konservatorium and HfMDK Frankfurt).
