Teaching Philosophy
Students come to lessons with varying experiences and goals. In my teaching practice, I work with the student to support their individual journey towards their goals. Be it ensemble playing, audition preparation, leisure etc. To play an instrument is not only a technical skill, it is participation in a culture, which is why it is important for me to give my students access to, and invite them to actively take part in classical music culture.
Real world relevance
From the beginning, students learn real technical terms and practice techniques that will be in use for the rest of their musical lives.
Stylistically informed interpretation practice
Beyond Note reading and playing technique, Students will learn to interpret works according to their stylistic conventions.
Sustainable
Playing the cello can be a lifelong occupation. That is why it is very important to me to provide my students with a biologically sound and appropriate playing technique so that they can enjoy playing the cello for a lifetime, whether in a professional or recreational capacity.
Peer Learning
Students are given opportunities to exchange ideas and collaborate with other learners.
Practice Coaching
Intermediate - Advanced
All Instruments
Practicing is a large part of learning, an instrument that is seldom explicitly taught.
Do you want to use your time in the practice room more efficiently?
I can help you to work in a way that is pragmatic and goal oriented, using
- principles of Neuroscience and Sports science - how does one learn? how does one master?
- Problem specific practice strategies
- objective goal setting and reflection
- Time management - never again say "I don't have time to practice"
*This is not an instrumental lesson! I will guide you through the practice process, showing you relevant learning and practice tools. If instrument specific technical questions arise, I will help you specify what you need to ask your instrumental Teacher.
